HP challenge Day 7

Day 7: Favorite female character and why.

This may not surprise you that Luna Lovegood is my favorite.  She is definitely different from everyone else.  She isn’t afraid to be who she is.  When people make fun of her, she rolls with the punches, doesn’t let it affect her, and keeps going.  She is one character that is entertaining and takes you for a good laugh. 

When I first read the book I related with the character.  I even stated that I would love to play her one day.  About two years ago my work started a whole “Breakfast with the Witches,” where people could pay to come get breakfast and get autographs from people dressed as famous witches and wizards.  One of my co-workers knew I loved Harry Potter and piped in to my boss that she thought I would make a perfect Luna.  To my surprise my boss agreed and let me play Luna.  

For the past two years I’ve been paid to portray one of my dream rolls.  Every year I hear positive feedback about how that girl who played Luna was really believable.  It’s been amazing!  I absolutely love everything about Luna.

Day 6: What house would you want to be in.

This was not a hard question for me.  I would want to be in Hufflepuff.  Now you guys may be wondering why I would want to be in this house? Not many of the important characters come from this house, and not a lot of people think that this is cool.  The sorting hat describes Hufflepuffs as, “These belong in Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal. Those patient Hufflepuffs are true and unafraid of toil.”  I love this description.  I feel that it is the house I’d fit the best in.  Also, whenever I take a house sorting quiz I get put into Hufflepuff.

Day 5: Favorite male character and why.

I love Neville Longbottom.  I admire how well he was able to put up with having his parents cursed and having to live with his grandmother.  Neville was mostly a shy, clumsy, introverted boy who was constantly being told by his grandmother that he wasn't good enough or living up to his parent's accomplishments. However, in his later years, he showed that he had lots of courage and perseverance: he became an important member of Dumbledore's Army who fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, and the Battle of Hogwarts. During the Battle of Hogwarts, having refused Voldemort's invitation to join the Death Eaters, he destroyed the seventh and final Horcrux when he beheaded the snake Nagini. He also co-led the D.A. during his final year in opposition to the Death Eater professors. I love the change that his character goes through. 

The actor who portrays him does a fantastic job, and did I mention that he’s hot? Back when I was a punk 14 year old I got to meet him at the Jordan Commons.  I was too star struck to talk to him so I shyly smiled at him, got an autograph and a picture with him.

Day 4: Least fave female character and why.

I had to think about this one for a bit.  I don’t like Professor Umbridge at all. I hate how she gives her “hem-hems” in every single sentence she speaks, (it’s also super annoying while reading the books), and how everything is pink around her. I hate how she is always saying that she needs order.

I was trying to look for the best possible reason to not like her, and I found the perfect response from theartichokeissteamed on Tumblr: “She honestly believes she is doing the right thing. Umbridge uses cruel and unusual punishment that literally leaves Harry with a scar for a stupid reason. She spies for the corrupt leader and enforces all kinds of ridiculous laws to prevent any revolutionary talk from spreading. Attempt to brainwash school-age children to believe nothing is ever wrong ever, Dumbledore is a bad influence on them, Harry’s lying, and the ministry will take care of them.  She fires teachers for personal reasons of prejudice. Going on to “inspect” the muggle-borns, call them liars and thieves, persecute them unjustly, take away their wands.”  Remind you of a famous dictator in Germany that thought a certain group of people were dogs?

Day 3: Is there any of the films adaptations that have made you angry because they’ve ignored important parts of the book.

I had a hard time with this question.  Yesterday at FHE I chatted with a gal that helped me come to a decision of how I wanted to answer this question.

First off, it really bugged me how they just briefly touched on the Padfood/Moody/Prongs/Wormtail.  That was one of the things that I loved about the third book and missed in the third movie. 

Another thing that bugged me was in the fourth movie after Harry’s name comes out of the Goblet of Fire. In the movie Dumbledore rushes Harry, grabs him, and aggressively asks Harry if he put his name in the Goblet.  In the book how it was written was that Dumbledore calmly asks Harry if he did it, believes him, and moves on.

Finally, in the six movie they have Bellatrix set the Weasley’s Burrow on fire.  Where does that happen in the book? Oh yeah, it doesn’t.  Was it necessary to further the plot and make the movie make sense? Not even close.

HP challenge Day 2

Day 2: Your favorite Harry Potter movie:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, hands down was my favorite.  The action was there, they covered every detail at the end of the 7^th book, acting was great, and the emotion was there.  I went into the movie pumped, and ready to go.  I felt that it was the one movie that followed the book the best.  I absolutely loved the end *spoiler alert* where Harry talked to his son about the houses and how it didn’t matter what house he was in, just as long as he chose to be great.  I also loved to see how the actors developed through making all 8 movies.  I felt that they all became their character that they were portraying.  Definitely a great end to the series.

HP challenge Day 1

Day 1: Your favorite book in the series:

This may surprise all of you, I love Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but my favorite book of the series is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  I love the whole concept of the Marauders map and you get to meet Sirius Black.  It is great to have someone that is there caring for Harry.  I also love the Lupin/Harry relationship.  Remus Lupin is my favorite character that they had teach Defense against the dark arts.  I loved how he got to teach Harry how to use the Patronus charm.  My most favorite thing about Lupin and Sirius though is that they were able to give Harry a look at his parents that he would never have had.  Of course, the whole time turner and going back to change the past and free innocent people made me happy as well.
